A one-day course that explores the range of UK habitats and associated flora, developing keys skills in botany and taxonomy of British Native Flora.
No previous knowledge is required - only a love of our native flora!
This course is designed for people who have a general interest in UK flora or wish to work in the conservation sector in the UK. We will introduce you to, or expand your knowledge of British native flora and their associated habitats and distribution. On completion of this course participants will be able to produce a portfolio of native plants from a range of habitats. This one-day course is designed anyone who has a general interest in British Native Plants or wish to work in the conservation or habitat management sector. You will learn to evaluate plants at habitat level, as individual species and gain an understanding of taxonomy and botany through observations, drawing, sampling and recording their detailed structure. No previous knowledge is required, but participants need to be relatively fit as much of the day will require you to walk over fairly rough ground.
Before the visit you will be provided with a brief medical checklist that you will need to send to us prior to the visit. A risk assessment has been prepared and will be discussed in the trip briefing. A copy will also be included in your course booklet.
Health and Safety
Participants should have sturdy footwear, and suitable clothing for a full day out and about – wet weather gear is advisable – just in case! Bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink. A camera is well worth bringing, though not required to complete your day with us. You will be provided with a booklet to complete on the way round as well as writing materials.
