Slapton Field Studies Centre is part of the renowned Field Studies Council (FSC). This site offers a unique opportunity to sample a wide range of habitats within a relatively small area. This is a half-day ‘Walk and Talk’ session aimed at those wishing to understand the diversity of UK habitats and the links between them. No previous knowledge is required, but participants need to be relatively fit as the walk is approximately 3.0-3.5 miles, most of which is over fairly rough ground. We will pass through woodland habitats, farmland, grassland, reedbeds, meadows and scrubland as well as freshwater and maritime systems, and will discuss the diversity within these habitats and the adaptations that the communities within them have evolved to take best advantage.
